#4 As The MetaCartel Universe Continues To Expand, It’s Increasing It’s Ambitions
James discussed the The DAO, which launched in April, 2016, as an investor-directed VC, to fund commercial and non-profit enterprises. By May, more than 11,000 investor had contributed more than 14% of all ETH outstanding to The DAO, which was worth more than $150 million. If The DAO hadn’t been hacked in June, 2016, it would have billions of dollars today to facilitate the growth of the Ethereum ecosystem.
As MetaCartel grows, it’s increasingly seeing itself as playing the role that The DAO could have played in facilitating the growth and adoption of the Ethereum ecosystem. It’s an ambitious vision, but one they are making good progress towards fulfilling.
#5 MetaFactory Is An Opportunity To Explore DAOs Though The Lens Of Apparel Brands
MetaFactory is an apparel “Brand Factory”, providing a platform for apparel brand creators to realize their vision. It’s inspirations ranged from streetwear, to gaming and digital art. While secondary markets and scarceness is a part of what drives some brands, MetaFactory believes that community is becoming increasingly important, and can act as a catalyst driving mass adoption. By harnessing community, MetaFactory can move brand customers from a passive role to more active and participatory engagement with the brands they love, helping drive the success of those brandsg.
#6 Supreme Is A Great Example Of A Brand That Built A Community Around Scarcity
While Supreme started as a skateboard store in NYC in 1994, the fashion brand is now also known for collaborating with other fashion brands (e.g. Nike, Lacoste, Rimowa, Vans, The North Face, Comme des Garçons, Stone Island…) as well as non-fashion brands, for products ranging from cruiser bike, to bricks, crowbars, and Oreo cookies
#7 MetaFactory Democratizes Apparel Brand creation
Launching an apparel brand has traditionally taken a lot of capital. MetaFactoy does a lot of the capital intensive heavy lifting around production, fulfillment, packaging and such. This enables talented apparel brand creators/artists to focus on their key talents, notably style guides and an initial product to launch at auction.
The auction funders not only participate in the profits of the brands, they can participate in the governance of the brand as well, including brand direction, what products to produce, and choices around how products are marketed and sold.
#8 The First MetaFactory Product Is A Bomber Jacket
The limited run (42) bomber jacket is going up for auction shortly. The soon to be custom built jacket as is reversible, so there’s printing on both sides. You can sign up to get auction notifications here. When the auction is completed, the right number of jackets in the right sizes will be produced.
